What is a Pre-Purchase Inspection?
A Pre-Purchase Inspection(PPI) is a detailed vehicle inspection by a certified mechanic or auto specialist to assess the vehicle’s mechanical, aesthetic, and safety conditions. The technician will identify existing conditions, point out future problems that could develop later, and investigate to ensure that any prior damage has been appropriately fixed.
By becoming more knowledgeable about what’s going on inside, you can determine that this isn’t the vehicle for you, conclude that it’s not a good buy, or find out the information you can use to your advantage when negotiating the price.
What happens during a pre purchase inspection?
During the Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI), The Auto Shop conducts a safety assessment, focusing on various components. Providing a history report detailing the vehicle’s damage history beforehand allows them to prioritize inspections in critical areas. This ensures thorough examination of previously damaged sections to confirm proper repairs.
Essential inspections are primarily visual, but for a comprehensive assessment, the mechanic should inspect the engine and mechanical systems, examine under the car for broken or rusted parts and leaks, and conduct a test drive to evaluate steering, brakes, and detect any unusual sounds.
Additionally, utilizing new technology and tools we are able to measure the thickness of the paint and clear coat to ensure that the surfaces are consistent and don’t have evidence of previous paint or body repairs that were not reported.
